There may be dozens of sailings per day on popular routes in high season (eg Dover-Calaise). Services are less frequent in Winter than in Summer - and may be cancelled due to bad weather. There are overnight services on longer routes such as Portsmouth-Le Havre. It used to to be possible to save large amounts of money by buying a day return and only using it for one half of the journey - but this loophole has now been closed.
