Living in the Languedco:      Things to Know about living in France

Let's take it as read that you know which side of the road to drive on, and that we use Euros here. Here are some things you might not know about.

The most import one is that in France it is a criminal offence not to try to help someone in distress - for example someone is imminent danger, or the victim of a crime. (You may recall that the French authorities considered bringing charges against the photographers who took pictures of Diana, Princess of Wales, as she lay dying in the wreckage of her car in 1997).

In Anglo-Saxon countries such a law was considered unnecessary before the twenty-first century, but similar statutes are now being considered since moral obligations are no longer recognised.
